Where Have All The Good Women and Men Gone?
I don't know about anyone else but I am disappointed by the shortage of candidates running for the New Jersey Geospatial Forum Executive Committee. I applaud those who have stepped up to the plate but I was hoping three to four candidates would run for each constituency group. Why do you think so few people are running and what do you think can be done about it?

Ron,
I can give you some good guesses why there were so few in my constituency group. I'm running for NGO, and there were a grand total of three memebers of the constituency group who attend meetings. Two of us are running. I strongly suspect that the reason there are so few NGO constiuency members is because 1) many nonprofits still haven't felt able to hire GIS professionals and 2) those that have have hired recent graduates who aren't aware of things like the geospatial forum. I'm hoping to help fix that problem, because I think that NGO's can learn a lot from the forum, and that the viewpoints of those members would be useful for the group. But it takes time, and you need to get the word out, and when you're THE GIS person, sometimes its hard to find out about things. I don't understand why there aren't more people running for other positions, like private sector and government, since there are a lot of members who are in those sorts of positions - possibly people feel the compitition is too strong, or they just aren't up for the added responsibility. But I agree, it would have been much better if there were more choices on the ballot. (I've been planning on running for NGO since last winter - unfortunatly my first meeting was when the winners were announced.)
