Topology in ArcView?
I had been hearing persistent rumors that topology, always the domain of ArcEditor and ArcInfo, was going to be made available in ArcView at 9.2. Well, ArcView 9.2 is here, and topology is still not available to its users.
If you need topology-like functionality without upgrading your ArcGIS installation from ArcView to ArcEditor, here’s the next best thing – an ArcView extension called EditTools (ET), developed by an ESRI authorized business partner in South Africa.
Need to run “Clean” or “Build”? ET does it on the shapefile. Convert polyline to polygon? ET does that, too, as well as over 100 other functions.
At the time of this writing, ET Geo Wizards sells for $195.00, and is worth every penny. Go check ET out at http://www.ian-ko.com. You’ll thank me later. (I receive no royalties from the sale of ET – I am just a satisfied customer).

Topology means a lot moere than ET software can do (although it is a nice and helpfull product).
I can´t imagine that ESRI will give full topology for ArcView in the future.
As I wrote elsewhere (http://njgeo.org/2008/06/26/arcgis-93-now-shipping/#comments), ESRI should recognize the inadequacy of the three-tier ArcGIS product line, pull the plug on ArcEditor, and incorporate its full functionality into ArcView. Maybe they will.
