Pitney Bowes to Acquire MapInfo for $408 million

News broke today that MapInfo will be acquired by Pitney Bowes (PBI). Read the press release and Adena Schutzberg's take in the All Points Blog. An excerpt:
"At PBI that might read this way: 'We already enable their [customers'] mail communications, now we can sell them products and services for location intelligence.'"
Why is this news relevant for New Jersey GIS users? For one, I wonder where that leaves the many police departments in the state that use MapInfo technology.
