Is ARC/INFO Legacy Software?
How about ArcView GIS 3.x?
James Fee started a thread on his blog, Spatially Adjusted, which seems (the thread) to have struck a cord throughout GIS geekdom. What is legacy (GIS) software, and does "legacy" equal "bad"?
Go check it out, and do read the comments.

I just loaded ArcGIS Workstation 9.2 (current version of ArcInfo) on my machine this week. I needed to resurrect some old data that I had stored in .e00 format found that ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 lacked the tool I needed. As a person who originally learned GIS using Arc/INFO 7.X on UNIX box it felt good to get back to the command line and actually get the command right on the 1st try. I am hoping to do more command line work in the future for the purpose of writing some python scripts to automate some routine data manipulation functions we do around the office. Even MS is getting back to the command line with there new server OS Windows 200* server which will have the ability to run in a command line mode.
