Which GIS Company has Trademarked the Word "Community"?
I wanted to trademark the word "Community" for my business, only to find out that it was already trademarked.
I am only kidding, of course. I did not think (and why didn't I?) to trademark "Community", but someone did. Be the first to post the correct answer here and you will win this cool ENTCHEV GIS Architects hat.

Ooh, I'll be ESRI would totally do that.

Now I'm flummoxed. Beyond my original bewilderment that anybody would claim "Community" as their trademark, it appears that there are multiple claimants. I wonder how defensible these "property rights" are.

Yeah, owning words is a strange business. Be careful, you might catch flak from AIA for using "Architects" on your hat.

Yes. Especially staking an exclusionary claim to words like "Community", which is no different at its core than if the US Congress decided to trademark "Democracy" so that no one else could use the word.
I have heard the "Architects" warning many a time. Does the AIA have an exclusionary right to the term? It seems preposterous that they would even claim that. I can see how the AIA could be upset if I were to claim that I were a licensed architect and offer to design buildings for a fee, but nothing beyond that.
How about event planners? Should the AICP (I am a member) be upset? How about sanitation engineers? Should the PEs sue?
By the way, I have a Master's degree in architecture. But I hope I'll never have to play that card.
