How long before commercial Chinese GIS software hits the US market?


Your iPhone may be made in China, but at least your GIS software is still made in the good old U.S. of A., right? Not for much longer, perhaps, if you believe a China Economic Net report (first spotted by Adena at the All Points Blog).

Says the report:
“Since 1980s when the first set of geographic information system software was introduced, China's geographic information system technologies have developed greatly; especially made-in-China software with independent intellectual properties is of remarkable achievements.”
and
“Data showed that geographic information industry had kept an average annual growth rate of 20 percent over recent years.”
“Independent intellectual properties” is an important claim. ESRI better dust off their patents.
