Too many GIS events, not enough sponsors
Are there too many GIS events in New Jersey? It seems so.
In just one week ENTCHEV GIS Architects received three separate invitations from three different organizations to sponsor their local (NJ) event (we will sponsor one). Said events are scheduled in addition to an already busy schedule of New Jersey GIS activities, such as the well-attended (and well-respected) NJ Geospatial Forum quarterly meetings in Trenton, and the occasional regional and/or county GIS users’ group meeting.
Do decision-makers with budgets (which is whom sponsors want to meet) have the time to attend all these events? I think not, but would love to be proven wrong.
[UPDATE 10/06/2009] Dave Bouwman just posted a comprehensive blog post on the topic of GIS conferences.

I concur with you last statement completely. To see any type of decision maker at any GIS event is a rarity. If they are there it is usually to get some face time with a vendor/consultant already under contract. I personally blame the lack of really good shwag. If the private sector stepped up and offered some really cool freebies I am sure the management types would come out in droves.
This seems like deja vu from last year. Chris is right though, management loves shwag!
Thanks for the comments/feedback, Chris and Jim. You may be on to something here.
