"Make a Map Beta" -- an online app I can get behind
As my readers know, I have often been critical of ESRI's web mapping efforts. Remember ArcView IMS? I do. MapObjects IMS was no better. ArcIMS was a dog.
ESRI has come a long way in this department, though, and the recently-launched "Make a Map Beta" can attest to that. The site's laconic "About" statement will make a Spartan proud, but the app is slick and fast, and does not suffer from the kitchen sink syndrome which has historically plagued earlier ESRI web mapping efforts (the Maryland iMap comes to mind).

To bad there web api's are free only for "non-commercial use".
Well, this is what makes capitalism work -- you come up with a better mousetrap, sell a bajillion of them, and make a lot of money.
