James Fee delivers ArcView verdict


James Fee got a free Google Cr-48 Netbook and blogs about his experience with it. You should read his entire blog post, which is about much more than ArcView.

But his position on desktop ArcView is what got me to write this blog post. Summary: It is asinine, in 2010, to buy and install desktop software licenses just to view GIS data. Of course it is!

"[...] I’m talking about eliminating the need for ArcView on 95% of all desks and using web apps for these people to work with the data. [...]  the pieces are coming together in 2011 to finally put the fork in apps such as ArcView (real GIS pros need ArcInfo, sorry Esri) [...] Time we started facing up to the fact."
