Butch Cassidy and the Huffington Post
My original title was “HuffPo to run MapQuest”, but I thought this one was catchier.
This post’s idea (and its illustration) came from Om Malik’s article “AOL+HuffPo! Why It is Not Really a Good Deal”.
For those who have seen the 1969 George Roy Hill classic, the illustration speaks for itself and no explanation is needed. For those who have not – put it on your Netflix queue. And for those who don’t have Netflix, below the image is a short synopsis (SPOILERS!) from IMDB.com.
Too bad for MapQuest.

"Etta decides to leave them as she senses that their days are numbered and she doesn't want to watch them die.
[...]
The wounded pair discuss where they will be going next, realizing that their time is up (Butch suggests Australia, where at least they speak English). They dash out of the house in a futile attempt to get to their horses. The image freezes and slowly turns to a sepia tone tintype while a voice is heard ordering: "Fuego!" (Fire), followed by the sound of hundreds of rifles being fired in three consecutive volleys..."

I hope Huffington continues to support the MapQuest and OpenStreetMap - Open Source Project. http://developer.mapquest.com/web/products/open
So do I, but do you think she will? What does she know (or care) about OpenStreetMap?
She has a track record of leveraging content created by others. Seems like she would see value of OSM.
I hope you are right.
I see Arianna as having a track record of a being a high-end-politico-socialite, ambitious and power-hungry, striving to be a mover and a shaker. If I am right, OSM will wilt under her, because OSM confers no power.
