Prior to launching we did some focus group research, heard a lot of things - good and bad -- but this is a first. We will definitely consider it.

Comment on Off-Topic Announcement

Yes, distracting like a spinning flash ad... It's fun to look at an Escher for a little while, but I would not want one of his for wallpaper!

Comment on Off-Topic Announcement

Hmm, interesting. I appreciate the feedback, really. In what way? And your tie, John, got caught in the plotter. As a result, us three GIS-ers received permission not to wear ties in the office. We were the envy of all male coworkers.

Comment on Vintage ArcView 1 T-shirt

Ah, the good days. I found both the opening and closing speakers to be very interesting and representative of how GIS has enabled more robust analysis of data in many different disciplines.

Comment on is microsoft competing with esri

Nobody is ever ready to part with their baby. I don't think so. Even though it is worth a fortune...

ESRI and Microsoft have always been business partners, however, I think ESRI realizes that they need to work even closer, especially after the ArcGIS 9.2 Visa compatibility fiasco. Perhaps this may lead to some sort of formal arrangement?

Comment on The New Jersey Chapter of the American Planning Association (NJAPA) Publishes “GIS and Privacy”

We did a comprehensive photo layer of every parcel in the city. I would say we had at least 25 instances where the home owner ran out and said they didn't want their house photographed.

I think the public wants their privacy, but if we educate them on something like "The Fire Dept gets a photo of your house on the call log" they may diminish those reservations.
